NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Days into his new role as the creative director of Louis Vuitton, Pharrell Williams made quite the fashion statement at London Fashion Week, rocking up at an event wearing… a sleeping bag.

Well, it wasn’t actually a sleeping bag, but the coat certainly resembled the camping favourite as he attended a Moncler event in London.

The Happy hitmaker posed for pictures in the army green sleeping bag-esque coat, which didn’t seem to have arm holes but draped down either side of the famed producer’s shoulders.

Lewis Hamilton and Alicia Keys were also in attendance at the star-studded event, held at Olympia in London on Monday evening.

Moncler Presents: The Art Of Genius was part of London Fashion Week and saw the Milan fashion house ‘co-create’ with big dog designers, celebrities and brands.

The singer-songwriter has long been revered for his style status, this was cemented as he was appointed creative director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear division last week, taking over from the late Virgil Abloh, who died of cancer at age 41 in 2021.

Notably, the sleeping bag look is similar to Moncler’s collection, so wasn’t a totally random roll-out-of-bed moment from the 49-year-old star.

The Grammy and Oscar-winning musician has previously worked with brands and designers, one of whom was Karl Lagerfeld, so this is far from his first rodeo in the fashion world.

Pharrell’s plant art installation, Artists Reign, also featured in the show, and was praised as an ‘immaculate (and) incredible visual’ by American rapper Toby Nwigwe.

Under the Neptunes producer’s sleeping bag coat was more khaki green, as he sported a padded waistcoat and a countryside-classic green jumper, with what looked to be waterproof trousers of the same colour.

To make sure he was extra toasty, the rapper opted for a cosy-looking beanie hat, and he finished off the look with a splattering of pizzazz in his jewel-encrusted sunglasses.

Also a fashion guru with his own clothing line called plus 44, F1 legend Lewis Hamilton was a welcome face at the event, and opted for Moncler’s classic black puffer coat in a simple but chic look.

Other celebrities in attendance were singers Charlie XCX and Aitch, as well as tennis superstars Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, and England footballer Marcus Rashford, the latter of which went for the puffer jacket look too, but the white version.

The show also featured installations by Alicia, Serena and Jay-Z, although the rapper didn’t appear at the event.

Elsewhere, Amanda Holden stunned in a skimpy black dress alongside her 17-year-old daughter Lexi at Julien Macdonald’s first London Fashion Week show in three years on Sunday.
